Representative of the Institute for Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences:

"I look at the projects of Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy with great respect."

Some of the representatives of the Russian Academy of Oriental Studies visited Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy (ISCA) with the arrangement of the International Office of the Center for Scientific and International Cooperation, on Tuesday, November 5.

According to International Office of the Center for Scientific and International Cooperation, Dr. Ebrahim Alipour, director of the Research Center for Philosophy and Theology first introduced ISCA and its capacities as well as some of the faculty members present at the meeting.

Alipour added that most of the participants in the meeting have traveled to Russia and have good information about Russian capabilities. He referred to the international conference on "Immortality of Soul in Islam and Christianity" which is going to be held soon as a comparative project between Islam and Christianity. "in the first round of the conference we had some representatives from important countries, but Russian thinkers were really missed there. However, considering some of the ISCA's research projects, it is possible to cooperate with Russian scholars.

Nikolai Plutenkov from the Russian Institute for Oriental Studies introduced the institute as well as his companions who were experts in fields of oriental studies, Iran studies, and political information from Moscow State University. He said that this institute is one of the oldest Russian research centers in fields of history, language, and politics, which celebrated its 200th anniversary last year and recently, has established a research center in field of Islamic sciences and studies. Its activities range from Africa, the Middle East, Central Asian countries, and Asian regions to Japan.

He stated, "We have close relations with the research center of foreign ministry in Russia. During our few days in Iran, we had useful meetings with Iranian scholars. One of the results has been that we have common points of cooperation for the next five years." In addition to expressing surprise at the extensive activities of ISCA, he referred to the large number of projects carried out in this academy and said that he looks at this issue with great respect.

Dr. Yaqubnejad said, "We already had information about your institute and your comments were good and helpful. We can cooperate more with Russian cultural activists than anywhere else, especially when you said you have plans for the next 40 years. Good collaboration can be made if you are in touch with us through your studies. In addition, here we have the Islamic Seminary of Qom, which has a hundred thousand erudite clergymen.

Yaqubnejad discussed the carried out activities of Westerns on Thesauruses and said, "For the first time, ISCA has done some activities in the field of thesaurus of Islamic Sciences and it is going to be translated into Arabic as well. We plan to carry out projects on rational sciences in English either.

Dr. Shakernejad introduced the Research Center for Ethics, Spirituality, and its three departments in the fields of ethical studies, education, and spirituality. He referred to the status of the modern world and talked about the activities of this research center to answer the problems of new age through ethics, psychology and sociology and said that ethics is used to answer the new questions of Islamic community. With regard to his visits to the Moscow and St. Petersburg scientific centers, he noted Russian people's interest in spirituality and philosophy.

The interest that can be seen among the Iranian people as well. "Considering the conditions of the modern world in both countries, there is a common ground between the two countries in the field of ethics and spirituality." he said.

Dr. Pezeshgi considered political thought as one of the oldest departments of ISCA. He said, "The scholars that work in ISCA in PhD level, used to be the student of this academy. There used to be on academic department in ISCA. This research center has been carrying out research activities for about two decades. There are some projects being conducted on philosophy, political sciences and jurisprudence both theoretically and scientific research. About 12 faculty members and more than 300 scholars have been collaborating with the research center and some of its works have been translated into Portuguese, Turkish, and English."

Dr. Shaikh Hosseini referred to the most important challenge of the two countries, the challenge of extremism in the region and the world, which has threatened the interests of the two countries. In order to counter this phenomenon, there can be two confrontations: one is a hard confrontation that the two countries of Iran and Russia have a strategic alliance in the field, but the more important part is the intellectual and cultural confrontation that are the duties of the two countries' scientific and cultural centers.

This cooperation should be promoted in two phases. First, their intellectual issue should be extracted and in the second phase, their wrong understanding from Islam must be corrected. If we do not pay attention to them, we may be at risk in the future.

Elena Donaowa said, "I was your guess at ISCA two years ago." He referred to the activities related to Iran studies in Russia and said, "In Russia, Iran studies, and Turkey studies are of the oldest fields. Currently, we have paid more attention to the Islamic Republic of Iran. We conduct research on Islam in Iran, the relationship between Islam and politics, principle of foreign politics in Iran, and principle of Islamic economy."

One of the latest studies is the economic-social development of Iranian society and the challenge of modernity. We publish out works about Islamic identity, cultural issues and cultural development in Iranian society and every year we hold several big conferences in Moscow with the presence of Iranian thinkers and university students. One of the methods of this process is to bring up an issue from one of the two sides and work on it and this makes both sides to get familiar with the each other's perspectives.
"Currently, we are ready to work on the history of the relationship between the two sides. I want to say that political activity in our institute in progress.  We have meetings and studies on the two countries' threats and challenges. The findings suggested that extremism is the most significant challenge for the both countries "she said.

She said, "Islamology is one of our shortcomings, because we don't have the necessary trainings on Islam. For example, we sometimes don't know how to pay Khoms and Zakat."

Alexi Marinin stated, "One of the important challenges we face is extremism. We have carried out some field research with our colleagues in Middle Asia Academy, which the main goal has been research on extremism. We were surprised by the results. Because if we study some of the Western research, their findings suggest that the main reason of extremism would be Islam."

Our research show there are other reasons for that. The main reasons are financial and social dissatisfaction and shortage of religious teachings education. Of course, this study is related to Muslims in Russia and Middle Asia. These shortcomings have attracted some followers for Salafis. I totally agree that we can use the experience of Iran on this issue.

Shaikh Hosseini said, "As the person who has been working on field of extremism for years, I add this point that it is true the most important reason for extremism is deprivation, but this deprivation needs an intellectual support to turn into violence. If we do not have collaboration with each other to introduce the Islamic humanitarian messages, this current will fill this gap considering communication spaces."
Nikolay Polotinkov also said, "I totally agree with all of your comments. If you agree we could have cooperation with each other on this issue."

Alipour added, "ISCA is ready to sign cooperation MoU on this field. Of course, relations with other non-extremist organizations is very important. What we saw as the highlight of the trip to Russia was converting to the religion. From now on, activities could be done on this issue.

Finally, Abdipour Said, "We examine the cooperation fields and we are ready to provide you with our works and studies. We are also ready to carry out common projects in the form of meetings, conferences, and workshops. We pay attention to the issues of Iran seriously which some of these issues are issues of the region as well. Therefore, considering these would help the two countries to have cooperation on these issues.
